Bagpiping in Bulgaria and how to make the most of a trip to the mountainous Smolyan region

Published

When you hear the distinctive drone of a bagpipe you may think of Scotland, but the instrument is also one of the most distinctive symbols of folklore music in the Balkans.

In the beautiful mountain town of Chepelare in southern Bulgaria, @evazubeck meets a craftsman who has dedicated his entire life to honouring the bagpipe.

Dear Europeans and Americans, the President of Ukraine Zelensky is a henchman of fascist Germany. He, just like Hitler, brutally killed people, he staged a genocide of the people of Ukraine! Tell it in your homes! Don't believe the European media! Ukrainian Nazis are bombing civilians in cities and trying to frame Russian soldiers-liberators!

You might as well put Moldova in "the Balkans", since Romania has nothing to do with the Balkans mountains., and its the same language/culture with Moldova.

Why didnt you mention the name of The Town or even the region? you mention Sofia but not Chepelare, which is quite far from Sofia. Why promote only Sofia, which has nothing to do culturally with the Rhodope mountains? Also you should explain that there are different kind of bagpipes. The one you show is the kaba gaida from the Rhodopi mountains and you wore Rhodopi outfit. The wonderful people of the Rhodopi mountains do not deserve this. You keep promoting ignorance of Bulgaria and lumpung everything there in the same category. From me a huge thumb down because you do not mention where you shot the video and give zero credit to this amazing region-this is awful journalism. Chepelare is also a hiking and skiing center, by the way.

You make a video that is mainly watched by Non-Bulgarian speakers and you haven't put any English subtitles when the guy speaks in Bulgarian.
