Look at this England team! Just look at it! Haha. England should be winning these games with ease. The problem is when you run into teams that can really play. This England team is lacking the intensity and leadership that a Henderson can bring in midfield. The creativity of attacking passes that a wide playing Trent might bring. Attackers like Graelish and Foden creating problems. Maguire will be exposed the first decent attacker he comes up against. You cannot play this type of defensively minded football and expect to win against top teams. You need to play your own game, and play great attacking football. 2 CDMs might be the strategy when you have an easy road to the final and you are just grinding out results, but these systematic errors will cost England the cup. Southgate doesn't get credit for making it to the Euro finals, with that squad and the way they did. Sorry.

Well actually he is no better than Eriksson. In 2002 he only lost 1-2 to a fantastic Brazil team in the QF, he always made it to the knock out stage and lost to Portugal on penalties. Southgate only got further because he got a lucky draw. His only big win is vs Germany (although they were still inferior to this England team). Eriksson beat Croatia 4-2 and the likes of Argentina in a major tournament.
Can Southgate beat France in the QF? I don’t think so, but if he does I’ll take it back.
