VW did not screw it up. They would screw it up if they did a mistake caused from bad design. They intentionally deceived millions of people (not to mention about pollution). This is one another major scandal from the German industry. It makes you wonder if the "made in Germany" brand worth its money. In my opinion stay away.

This is white and black, guys.
They cheated. They designed a cheating Software and advertised those cars as clean. They stole. Period.
This is not: oops I forgot your birthday.
This is: I regret I tortured and killed your dog and stole your car or worse.
Affected cars should be impounded immediately by the government, you cannot let them on the roads polluting at that rate.
I know you love your car, but it is illegal and it is polluting your air, and when returned to compliance YOU will not not love it at all, because the performance, milage and value is going down the tubes. (That is why the cheated in the first place).
And customers should be reimburse by VW immediately.
No way the final user should be affected.
VW must return all clean energy subsidies it got from the governments and pay the fines, reparation to customers and dealers, and if that bankrupts the company (that it won't), well, some other company will pick up the pieces and move forward.

Still, I'd rather push a Volkswagen than drive a GM car.

Mazda keeps putting off bringing their diesel to the USA because of the strict standards employed by the EPA . Apparently VW couldn't do it either so they cheated and probably sold a huge amount of diesel cars in the interim

"The cars know when they're being tested" ? How can a car "know" that it is being tested? Also it is stated that when the car knows it is tested, then it is on its "best behavior" ? Sounds like a movie, to me at least.
