South Korea ferry disaster: Video of rescue operation, hundreds missing after ship sinks

Published

on

Dozens of military boats and helicopters scrambled on Wednesday to rescue more than 470 people, including 325 high school students on a school trip, after a ferry sank off South Korea’s southern coast, officials said.

At least one person died and 14 were said to have been injured.

The ferry with 476 people was sailing to the southern island of Jeju when it sent a distress call Wednesday morning after it began leaning to one side, according to Ministry of Security and Public Administration.
The government said about 95 percent of the ship was submerged.

Couldn’t someone go back in and make an announcement on the loud speaker to come to that side of the boat??? Couldn’t they get a boat with a loud horn to get their attention???? Couldnt a diver go in to lead them out???

No doubt another ship disaster where listening to an inept crew to 'not move' caused most of the deaths.  When a ship lists, get up and out.  It was a lesson from the Concordia and it will repeat again.  Maritime laws need to updated.

if this boat sunk in america I would highly doubt it would be a rescue as organized and impressive as this was, congrats on the lives saved and sorry for the lives lost.
