New study finds positive correlation between gaming and well-being

Published

on

So if you’re thinking about treating yourself to a new games console, you might be pleased to hear that a new study has found a couple of games could have a positive influence on people’s wellbeing.
The Oxford University researchers tracked the amount of time survey respondents spent in-game and combined this data with a survey of players’ mental wellbeing.
Well, to help us understand more, I am joined by the study’s lead, Professor Andy Shah-Bill-Ski, who is Director of Research of the Oxford Internet Institute.

Maybe not the gaming: its the energy drinks! My gamer-boy goes suicidal and murderous if he games for hours as he drinks 6 energy drinks, crying tears in a fetal position, however on days when he eats and drinks properly I do not see that behavior.

This is coincidental with the release of the PlayStation 5 and the X Box Series X and X Box Series S; lockdowns encourage gaming.

Anything addictive is good to well-being as long as we go on doing it.

Nowadays You can use a study to support ANY statement.
Correlation is NOT the same as causality.

I love the idea of gaming universities in Korea. Many if not most young people does not know what they want to do when they are 18 and those programs are clearly not a career path to follow. Never the less they focus on cooperation and involvement instead of producing bunch of dropouts.

I notice that he describes make dominated games in a negative way while the games shown tend toward a younger group with child like graphics.

It makes me wonder how accurate thus study is and how many biases are incorporated in the study.

ps I'm a gamer and am used to the bad rap we get from 'enlightened' non gamers.
