Polling in Spain suggests that separatist parties could win big in upcoming regional elections in Catalonia and the Basque Country. So what does this mean for Spain following a hung parliament last year? And could we see a push for independence votes?

CORRECTION: At 3:05, we describe Francina Armengol as a Catalan native. As commenters have pointed out, this isn't quite correct – she is in fact from the Balearic Islands, where Catalan is widely spoken. Apologies for this sloppy error, and we hope you nonetheless enjoyed the video.

Spainish clown government is lobbying to recognize Palestine as a sovereign country without thinking of the implications it would create about Catalonia 🤡

Given the amount of factual inaccuracies in this video, it really makes me wonder how much of what I've learned about the rest of the world from this channel is actually true. I will think twice about coming back to your content.

As a Spanish political scientist myself I would like to speak in defense of @TLDRnewsEU channel here.

Most of critic comments against your video come from a left wing/independentist sympathetic view.

EH Bildu is INDEED the successor of ETA terrorists (Its leader is indeed a former ETA member, who was declared guilty of different violent offenses, for example).

Spanish politics are INDEED chaotic right now, due to the pacts of our Socialist government along with separatists. In fact the government coalition is so unstable right now, that has been incapable of approving the yearly budget (Indeed they didn’t even try, admitting that their differences were too acute, at least for now).

So, don’t worry too much you did a nice job here. But some people doesn’t like independent journalists doing their job.

Writing from Barcelona. Wrong analysis. Separatist politics is in decline not on the rise.

As a Spaniard I just want to add that in the separatist regions the Spaniards are a majority, just less willing to vote. This may (in a very cursed future) enable the separatists to declare independence, however, that will cause a Yugoslavia-like collapse with a war probably, which nobody wants.

You have some pretty good videos but the problem is you are mainly based on Western propaganda ignoring so many facts and presenting the reality as the Western world wants it to be

One correction, in one picture you show the PNV regional coalition goverment. But Vox and Popular Party aren't in coalition with PNV in Vasque Country, Vox it's actually the oposite of PNV (they hate each other), PNV formed a Coalition Goverment with PSE ("Partido Socialista de Euskadi", PSOE) after 2020 regional election.

This episode is seriously behind the times. We got home 🇨🇵 from Girona in Catalonia yesterday and follow the Spanish and Catalan press. The wave of separatism surrounding the referendum (and its aftermath) has passed, and the flavour of the moment is "increased autonomy within Spain".

In the Basque country there is a complication, the PNV are oficially pro-independence but in practise are pro-autonomy.

You’d think a media outlet headed by English people would do a better job showing how separating from the EU gutted the UK. Instead of promoting separatists.

Then I remember TLDR is a propaganda channel.

I live in Spain. Support for separatism in both Catalonia and the Basque Country ebbs and flows, and neither is likely to vote in the majority for independence. Basques actually already have a sweet fiscal deal, expect Catalonia to seek the same.

I'm not sure what Catalan independence would achieve for them. Tourism? I expect them to quickly realize how foolish it was. With no resources, what economy will carry the country? I wouldn't blame Spain for not aiding with support and relief packages for a self-inflicted problem. And I bet that Catalonia would begin to frame Spain as an oppressor who isn't helping them with a problem which is solely of their own making, attempting to portray them as oppressors of independence.
