euronews U talk – Lifelong learning

http://www.euronews.com/ “I would like to build up a project encouraging elderly people to learn how to use computers and the Internet. Is there any kind of EU support for adult learning projects?”

Nina Koudelkova, Europe Direct Communication Officer, responds:

“The European Commission finances the GRUNDTVIG programme to help adults at all ages to develop their competences and to make sure that the teaching and learning of adults is of good quality.

One of the objectives of this programme is to develop innovative methods to enable older people to keep up with the technological developments and maintain an active role in modern society.

GRUNDTVIG funds a range of activities, including particularly those supporting adult learning staff to travel abroad for learning experiences, through exchanges and various other professional experiences.

Other larger scale initiatives involve, for instance, networking and partnerships between organisations in different countries.

Over 300 projects and networks on active ageing and intergenerational learning have been supported since 2007, and digital skills was the subject of over 80 of these.

Some of these activities are “centralised”, which means the applications for projects must be submitted to the EU’s Education, Audio-visual and Culture Executive Agency.

The other activities are “decentralised”, which means the applications must be submitted to the national agency in each participating country.”

China’s economic growth hits slowest pace in more than three years

China’s economy grew 4.3% year on year in the second quarter, its weakest pace since late 2022, as weak domestic demand and a prolonged property downturn outweighed strong exports, increasing pressure on Beijing to provide more economic support.
