Video: Stunt car jump breaks world record despite almost disastrous landing

A Chinese racer set a new Guinness record by driving a racing car across
the Heilongjiang River under a temperature of minus 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The racer, Xie Yujun, drove his car along a 300-meter-long, 10-meter-tall track
and leaped over a 40-meter-wide span of the Heilongjiang River in the city of
Heihe, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province.

In the process, the car deviated from the track due to a sudden strong wind
and landed hard into a cardboard box pile. Yet, Xie soon recovered from the shock
and cheered with the spectators for his success.

In 1997, the well-known Hong Kong racer, Blackie Ko, raced across the Hukou
Fall section of the Yellow River in north China. Now, Xie Yujun, the last pupil of
late Ko, set a world record to commemorate his master.

    130 feet? People are jumping that far for fun here in the US. Maybe the record has something to do with the temperature or frozen river or…who knows. Either way that's a failed jump and MANY others have jumped further than that and landed to drive away. Tanner Foust jumped 332ft in a truck in 2011.

Europe may need Azerbaijan more after Hormuz crisis, President Aliyev tells Euronews

Azerbaijan could play a bigger role in Europe’s energy security as countries reconsider supply routes following the Hormuz crisis, President Ilham Aliyev told Euronews, while also presenting the country’s post-conflict reconstruction projects as a potential model for other regions emerging from war.
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Urban Forum in Baku, Aliyev said Azerbaijan’s energy diversification strategy had protected the country from disruptions linked to instability in the Middle East. He argued that future geopolitical shifts could increase demand for Azerbaijani infrastructure and export routes.
Aliyev said Azerbaijani gas currently reaches 16 countries through the Southern Gas Corridor, including 10 European Union member states. He described cooperation with the European Commission as “fruitful”, adding that Europe needs alternative energy suppliers while Azerbaijan requires stable export markets.
