I have no particularly good opinion about politicians who turn politics into life career. I know it's a cliche, but I do believe people need to taste the real environment and meet people in regular business or institution, before they enter politics on higher level, otherwise they are losing the sense of reality. I don't think people should enter higher politics (national or European assembly, ministry, etc) before 40, or at least 35 (but preferably not before 40), because they have no life experience for such a strategic positions. They could be politically active, sure, but on the lower lever, on the level of municipality or a smaller city for example, if they are really interested in politics, preferably as volunteers or semi-volunteers. I understand this guy is ambitious, but he never hold some high executive position, but he want to jump right away on the highest one. He should try with some secretary or ministry first. He is way too young for holding the highest position. We saw that with Obama, the guy who lack experience for being the president. This highest position in Brussels should be preserved for politicians who already served as leaders of national governments. People like Angela Merkel or Romano Prodi should hold these highest European positions. Maybe this guy would be a good president of the EU commission, but electing him would be a bad practice. Name one good politician who take over a high political position very young and later proved as capable? If he end on the right wing, he become a populist, or, alternatively, if he end on centre-left or centre-right, he become a pure bureaucrat. Both types are incapable for strategic decisions which are producing positive long term results. That's because they lack the sense of reality or courage, or both. That's not surprising because they live in a fantasy.

We have the surge of populists, and their objections, even though with bad intentions, are not without merit: no one in Europe would see this guy as a representative. You need to win the real elections buddy, on the country level first, because this is the union of the sovereign countries, and the real elections are the elections on the level of the sovereign country. Regardless what populists say, this union is the union of sovereign countries, for good or for bad.

Shame on turkey if they keep quit. Turkey should instead say, “we will never let the EU join any unions with Turkey”
