Catalans react with surprise but determination
http://www.euronews.com/ Catalans have reacted with surprise but determination to the result of their regional election.
The governing pro-independence CIU party lost 12 seats, while the vote for many smaller pro-independence parties increased.
For some, it is a reflection of the anger felt at the CIU’s austerity policies. But voters seem agreed on one thing, the push for independence from Spain.
“I expected a better result for the CIU,” said one man. “But even with their losses, adding up their votes and those for the ERC, the result is a large majority for the separatists. I think both parties should get together and push through the independence project and create an independent state.”
“It is not really the result we were expecting but it is clear that some of the pro-independence parties have grown a lot.” said another. “Now they must give the people what they want. All the nationalist parties, whether moderates, from the right or the left, all of them must now muck in to build a new state.”
Our correspondent in Barcelona says the CIU’s plans for sovereignty for Catalonia, shaped by Artur Mas, have not been mandated by popular support. The party has fewer seats and needs the support of other political groups to push through its plan to organise a referendum on independence for the region.

Patrick Smith, a staff photographer for Getty Images, will never forget the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
"Being there, shooting events like the pole vault, where an athlete is levitating across the air, seeing the iconic views of the stadium, the woodwork at the top … is very historic, and something that I’ll never forget."
The professional sports photographer says that there’s no better place to be than the Olympics, and Tokyo 2020 was no exception. "Covering the athletics makes your heartbeat, and it makes the athlete's hearts beat," he said.

Japan is a great place, he says, "it’s just somewhere I know that makes my heart beat in a happy way."
Smith hopes to visit Tokyo again in the near future and, in the meantime, he contents himself with speaking about his experience with his children, who he hopes to take there one day. “I tell them how safe it is, that the food is amazing," he added.

Don’t forget that when you think it’s cool to point your camera in someone’s face when they don’t want it that everybody has a camera pointed in their face whether you like it or not.. No matter who you are unless somehow all of natures eyes seem to avoid your presence
