Ensuring global access to a COVID-19 vaccine: Euronews moderates expert forum

Published

on

Developing a COVID vaccine is just the first hurdle. A second wave of Covid-19 unfurling across parts of the world is focusing on minds even more acutely on the urgency of finding a viable vaccine. There are hundreds of vaccine candidates and 10 are in phase three trials.

It is a frantic scramble, that has exposed the best and the worst in us. Covid-19 and the search for a vaccine have laid bare nationalistic tendencies and brutally exposed the inequity underpinning access to health.

Serious and legitimate questions are also being raised over whether some nations are disregarding safety standards in a bid to be the first to develop the jab. Yet in the midst of all of this we are reminded of the selfless excellence of our scientists, and burgeoning solidarity shown by some, who reminds us we are in the same boat, rich and poor, and, that for this to work, we all need protection.

Isabelle Kumar moderated a panel in partnership with the World Economic Forum. Opening remarks were made by Professor Klaus Schwab, Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum. She then discussed the challenges of making a vaccine globally available with the following experts.

Richard Hatchett, Chief Executive Officer, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness and Innovations (CEPI), Norway – one of the WHO partners on COVAX

Julie Gerberding is an American infectious disease expert and the former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control – now Executive Vice-President and chief Patient officer at MERCK

Seth Berkley, CEO, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and COVAX partner

Sai Prasad, President, Developing Countries Vaccine Manufacturers Network

Heidi Larson, Professor of Anthropology, Director of The Vaccine Confidence Project

its been a long road coming for me as i have suffered from (HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS) disease for the past 2 and half years I had constant pain, especially in my knees. During the first year after i was diagnosed I started medical treatment but still the disease circulated all over my body and I have been taking treatment from my doctor, anyway few weeks ago I came on search on the internet if I could get any information concerning the prevention of this disease, on my search I saw a testimony of someone who has been healed from (Hepatitis c and Cancer) by one herbal stations and she gave the email address of the doctor and advised to contact him for any sickness and he would be of help. so I wrote to the email telling about my HERPES Virus,a doctor replied and told me not to worry that I was going to be cured!! I never believed it, well after all the procedures and remedy given to me by this Doctor few weeks later I started experiencing changes all over me as the Dr assured me that I will be healed, after some time I went to the hospital for another diagnosed/test to confirmed if I have be finally healed behold it was TRUE, So i urge you all to contact this doctor on his email: drdelehome@gmail.com  contact WhatsApp +2348130654769  and get well soon and probably thank me later.

They haven't even tested the vaccine yet. Plus pharmaceutical companies are protected from prosecution if anything goes wrong, ie. side effects, death.
