Video: First Ebola victim arrives in Spain under tight security
The first European infected by a strain of Ebola that has killed more than 932 people in West Africa, Spanish priest Miguel Pajares, has arrived in his homecountry.
Pajares, 75, was working for a non-governmental organisation in Liberia and was repatriated along with his co-worker Juliana Bohi, a nun who has tested negative for the disease in Liberia but will undergo further tests in Madrid as she was exposed to the virus.
Spanish health ministry authorities said on Wednesday (August 6) the repatriation was being organised in line with the international procedures established by the World Health Organization in order to ensure the best treatment for the patient and the safety of the population and medical professionals.
The specially equipped Airbus 310 which airlifted the two missionaries departed from Madrid’s Torrejon de Ardoz air force base on Wendesday and returned at 0610 GMT on Thursday.
Both Pajares and Bohi traveled in isolation chambers fitted to guarantee the safety of medical professionals and crew onboard.
Pajares, the first Spaniard to be detected with Ebola, belongs to the Madrid-based, non-profit organisation Juan Ciudad and the Hospital Order of San Juan de Dios, which had requested the priest’s urgent transfer to Spain on Tuesday (August 5).
Pajares and Bohi were taken to the Carlos III Hospital in Madrid in ambulances escorted by police.
The sixth floor of the hospital has been left vacant for the repatriated patients, health union officials said.
Health authorities said Pajares had arrived in a stable state and that Bohi was in an overall good condition.
Highly contagious, Ebola, which has no known cure, kills more than half of the people who contract it. Victims suffer from fever, vomiting, diarrhoea and internal and external bleeding.

Possible Explanations for this event: A man form Ebola infected countries traveled 🧳 to Spain 🇪🇸 to survive from the outbreak 😷. Or a Spanish Man 👨 went to infected Ebola countries and got infected.
