Olympic jobs boost for Britain

http://www.euronews.com/ There were fewer unemployed Britons in the period from March to May as the Olympics in London created jobs.
In a rare bit of positive news from the recession-hit British economy, the total of people without a job – using International Labour Organisation measurements – dropped by 65,000 to 2.58 million.
The ILO jobless rate stood at 8.1 percent, of the workforce.
The number of people claiming unemployment benefits did rise slightly more than forecast in June, but the Office for National Statistics said a change in benefit rules may have contributed to the increase.
The ONS said the rise in employment and the drop in unemployment was concentrated in London, indicating that the Olympics, which start on July 27, have created jobs.

Libya’s prime minister has returned to work hours after being released from kidnappers.
Ali Zeidan had been seized at gunpoint by a militia, believed to be angry at the capture of an Al Qaeda suspect by US forces on Libyan territory.
At a cabinet meeting Zeidan sought to reassure other nationalities in the country:
“I would like to assure the foreigners here in Libya that what has just occurred was solely a result of complications within Libyan politics and foreigners are not targets.”
The militia earlier accused of the kidnapped, the Operations Room of Libya’s Revolutionaries, denied any part in it saying the had “no connection to the disappearance of the Prime Minister, Mr. Ali Zeidan”

High tides test Bangkok’s flood defences
http://www.euronews.net/ High tides are putting flood defences to the test in Bangkok as Thailand battles its worst floods in over half a century.
At least 377 people have been killed since heavier-than-usual monsoon rains began in July.
The floodwaters cover about 1.6 million hectares — an area roughly the size of Kuwait.
Thailand’s prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra says water levels around the capital should drop next week.

I wonder if this event will have a higher impact on society than the Beijing Olympics have had. Though I do hope that there won't be any negative events like terrorists attack.
