Experts debate how to fix Europe’s water issues, from pollution to climate change

Published

on

Pollution, floods, droughts and climate change – water is on everyone’s minds, and in this live Euronews Debate we ask how to wise up about water?

Presented from the European Union’s Green Week event in Brussels, we put questions from our audience to our panel of three experts: Florika Fink-Hooijer, Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Environment, Henk Ovink, Executive Director of the OECD’s Global Commission on the Economics of Water, and Arnaud Valleteau de Moulliac, CEO of water treatment specialists Veolia Water Technologies.

Hosted by Euronews science correspondent Jeremy Wilks, we will debate issues of water quality in urban areas, tensions with agriculture and industry, recycling, regeneration and desalination of water, nature-based solutions for rivers and waterways, and security of supply for every European.

No more talk, polling, meeting required. The topic jas been beaten to death. Action required. No new inventions techniques laws needed. Action from leaders that know what theyre doing. Money launderers industry and the markets must be neutered! We cannot eat drink breath money yet today we measure EVERYTHING in terms of money. Enough!!! In addition this growing man-made catastrophe is 100% tied to flammable fossils. Once again we KNOW what must be done. As rapidly as possible slow, stop, reverse burning of hydrocarbons. All of the above hinges on one other barbaric relic that has no poace in our world of 8 billion precious humans with another 80 million, 2X population of Canada, joining us annually. WAR is an addiction of the west. Europe the bloodiest continent in world history is back at it. Germany in particular owes the world PEACE yet its current leaders are committed to killing more Russians. Not satisfied with the 27 million soviets mostly Russian slaughtered by germans only 80 years ago German leaders are doubling down on violence. Refusing to even talk. Its sickening for this old guy to watch the horrors rise again. Dad and several family members served in the war. They did so believing the world had learned its lesson. We must have PEACE if there's any hope of addressing the exponentially growing man made ecological catastrophes we see all around.

What a bunch of time wasters: "i think this and i think this and belgium this and france this and in spain this and nature this"
it's supposed to be about cleaning the water and what tools need to be used and when getting started. It sounds more like nothing is getting done.

Fears of more fires as Australia temperatures set to soar

Published

on

http://www.euronews.com/ It has been a constant struggle, containing the bush fires which have spread across south-east Australia. Around 100 were burning on Thursday and the risk has increased as forecasters predict soaring temperatures set for the weekend. It’s reckoned in New South Wales the thermometer could reach the mid 40’s.

In some areas firefighters have carried out controlled “back burning” a technique which can create a fire break.

Poor visibility and heavy smoke led to one major highway having to be closed while there were fears the flames could reach a disused army range littered with unexploded bombs. People, like the Crightons are on the move from the fires.

“I don’t want to go, I don’t want to lose everything. But you could lose your life very easily,” explained Glenda while Fred added: “We packed up all the things that we can get in the car. It’s ready to go and the gates are open so we are ready to go.”

Charred remains are witness to the extensive damage to property caught in the path of the flames with many homes destroyed. To date its believed there have been no deaths.

It’s predicted the extreme temperatures forecast for the weekend could stretch into next week.
