On 28 April 19:00 CET the first presidential debate of its kind will take place between the candidates for the next European Commission presidency live on euronews.

In partnership with the European Youth Forum and the City of Maastricht in the Netherlands the candidates, Jean-Claude Juncker (European People’s Party), Martin Schulz (Party of European Socialists), Guy Verhofstadt (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party) and Ska Keller (European Green Party) will battle out key issues for the future of Europe.

Until now the president of the European Commission was traditionally selected by unelected appointment but this time, according to the election slogan…”it’s different”. For the first time ever the European political groups are putting forward candidates for the presidency, giving you a say in who heads up the executive branch of the EU.
