First Look – Balmain Fall 2012 ft Karlie Kloss, Anja Rubik, Joan Smalls | Paris FW | FashionTV

Models like Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, and Kati Nescher are getting their makeup done by Tom Pecheux’s team. “The collection is SO luxurious, inspired by their faberge eggs. We’re in Russia, the tzar, opulence. For balance we needed to go cool, simple–powder on the T zone, no foundation, a little bit of contour, very subtle, and we brushed the eyebrow with a little bit of dry mascara in brown or black to give it a little bit of power, and chapstick on the lips.

Hairstylist Sam McKnight says the hair at Balmain is extremely natural, raw–no products, no heat and no brushing. “The clothes are so embellished and so high that we had to take the hair down a few octaves.

The audience is blown away by the opulence of the Balmain collection, which has sweaters that look like paintings were three-dimensionally embroidered on them. Other fabrics include lush velvet and leather. Balmain, who was one of the first to make sharp and embellished shoulders hip in the world again creates a new jacket shape where the shoulders are extended and the shape is more boxy. The new pant is slim, cropped, and cuffed. It was Baroque glamour at its strongest and sexiest.

The quintessence of the collection lies in its treatment of the house’s signature rose. Koma transforms this romantic emblem into a versatile force of design: it appears as bold prints on taffeta beetle-back capes, delicate embroidery on vinyl bomber jackets, and sensual cutouts in Chantilly lace. The rose even takes on a structural dimension, manifesting as pleated appliqués on gold georgette lame and contrasting patterns in shimmering gold chainmail.
