UK: suspect in soldier killing appears in London court
http://www.euronews.com/ Michael Adebolajo, one of two men charged with killing Drummer Lee Rigby on May 22, has appeared in court for the first time at a hearing.
Adebolajo, who was shot by police at the scene of the killing, attended a hearing at Westminster Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect, who is a British man of Nigerian descent, repeatedly interrupted proceedings and was carrying a book that appeared to be the Koran.
Euronews correspondent Ali May reported from the court: “The 28-year-old appeared in the dock dressed in white. His left arm was bandaged. Adebolajo told the court that he now wanted to be called by the name Mujaheed Abu Hamza, and he blew kisses to supporters in the public gallery.”
A second man, Michael Adebowale, has also been charged with Rigby’s murder, which took place in broad daylight near his barracks in Woolwich, south London.
Both suspects will appear at a further hearing at the Old Bailey on June 28.
