With a double digit lead in the opinion polls, his centre-right opposition Popular Party is pledging to fix the economic crisis that has hit Spain hard.

Syria peace talks have ended with a clear agenda to pursue a political solution to the six-year-long conflict.

In the first UN-led talks in almost a year it was a tepid breakthrough. However, the UN Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura said that although there was no clear conclusion in Geneva, he was more positive than during previous rounds.

Wildfires in Greece: Blaze out of control near Rethymno in Crete

Over 220 firefighters are battling a wildfire in southern Crete, whilst strong winds are hampering aerial water drops. The funerals of the two firefighters who lost their lives Wednesday are taking place on Thursday. In Plomari on Lesbos, the fires are continuing to flare up.

http://www.euronews.net/ At least 73 people have been killed and 1,000 more injured after a football pitch invasion in the Egyptian city of Port Said.

The riot followed a game between home side al-Masry and bitter rivals Al Ahli, one of Egypt’s most successful clubs. Masry fans invaded the pitch, even though their team had won the match 3-1.

They chased fans and players from the rival club, throwing stones and bottles. Supporters had also reportedly taken knives into the stadium.
