British telecoms company Vodafone has confirmed it is in talks with Verizon to sell its stake in their US joint venture Verizon Wireless.
Reportedly the price would be around 130 billion dollars (98 billion euros).
Vodafone owns 45 percent of Verizon Wireless, which is the leader in the US mobile phone market.
With business waining in its core European markets, Vodafone has been looking to sell but said it would do that at the right time and for the right price.
Previously Verizon was reportedly looking to pay about 100 billion dollars.
The Wall Street Journal said significant shifts in financial markets, such as rising interest rates as well as changes in the US mobile phone business had brought the two sides closer together.

In the Brazilian city of Sao Paolo, isolated acts of violence marred an otherwise peaceful protest against the country’s staging of this year’s football World Cup.
Protesters rocked an empty police car as they tried to overturn it. TV pictures showed another powerful image as a Volkswagen Beetle became engulfed in flames.
In Rio, police prevented protesters from breaking into a shopping mall on Saturday evening.
The trouble came at the end of the year’s first major rally against the billions spent on hosting the tournament.
Some “black block” anarchists were among the marchers in Sao Paulo earlier in the day.
The overall number was only a fraction of the 20,000 who had signed up on Facebook to attend.
But their protest remains loud.
“The World Cup year will be a year of struggle. I think that in the run-up to the tournament, we will have a lot of fights and many demonstrations. And this all reflects what happened last June,” said demonstrator Filipe Alencar.
During the World Cup’s dress rehearsal tournament the Confederations Cup last year, more than a million Brazilians joined protests against high public transport fares, poor public services and political corruption.
This time the numbers in Rio de Janeiro and other cities were in the hundreds.

‘Smart cows’: Gene editing technology changes cattle colour to help reduce emissions
We’ve all heard that cows produce methane – and that’s bad for the environment.
Scientists in New Zealand are trying to develop so-called “smart” cows, The idea…. breed cattle that are better adapted to warmer temperatures to lower methane emissions.
One idea is to lighten the colour of the cows coats – black cows absorb much more heat from the sun than a lighter hide. To help explain how this will help lower emissions, I am joined by Goetz Laible, principal Scientist at AG Research and Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Auckland.

Huge job cuts at Nokia-Siemens Networks

17,000 jobs will go as the world’s number two maker of mobile phone network equipment, which has struggled to make money since its 2007 startup, seeks to make savings of a billion euros a year.
Analysts say the move looks like the company is being prepared for a sell-off.
