Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens was built in 1843 and is the second oldest amusement park in the world. If you want to get in the Christmas spirit by taking a ride that will turn your stomach inside out, or just float in a swan shaped boat, then Tivoli Gardens is the place for you.
“I think what people come for mostly is the lights, also the general scenery. We have lots of old buildings, great architecture and the decorations are quite spectacular. So people come for that,” Ellen Dahl, Tivoli’s spokeswoman, told euronews.
One of the parks biggest attractions is a wooden roller coaster built in 1914.
It is one of the last in the world to have a “brakeman” who controls the speed of the car.
“I also think it’s more secure and you can make each ride more unique. If you have a lot of big people, adults or a lot of children, it’s two different rides. So you have to brake differently on each ride. And if it’s raining, it gets more slippery, when it’s cold, it doesn’t go that fast. Every ride is unique,” Nikolaj Jakobson, Tivoli’s rollercoaster brakeman said.
