The Papadopoulos family were among ten of thousands who took to the streets in Athens. The closure of the public TV station ERT is a personal blow and their stand a united family one. It reflects the plight which thousands are facing though not all 11-year-olds have been prompted to address the prime minister.

“I wrote and sent a letter to the prime minister and I asked him to re-open ERT and to give the people who worked there their jobs back. I know that we in Greece owe a lot of money and that we have to pay back our debt, but the solution is not to shut down a public channel,” explained 11-year-old Nikiforos Papadopoulos.

His father Polydefkes spoke about how he fears for his future prospects of getting a job. “I am 52 years old, I have many working years in front of me until I’m eligible for a pension. There is no chance, they give you no chance. Unemployment among journalists here in Greece has risen 200 percent over the last two years.”

His wife Theano summed up the feelings in the family. “I feel terribly insecure, and so does my husband and my son. Moreover he keeps asking, ” Dad, have you not got a job anymore?”.”

JUST IN: EU’s Ashton says world powers and Iran agreed that nuclear and sanctions experts will meet before November 7-8.

Iran has indicated a readiness to scale back its most sensitive nuclear activity in a clear signal that it is willing to compromise with the West to win relief from harsh economic sanctions, diplomats said on Wednesday.

But the details of Iran’s proposals, put forward during negotiations with six world powers in Geneva, have not been made public, and Western officials were cautious whether the Islamic state was willing to go far enough to nail down a deal.
