Video said to be of the Russian passenger plane which crashed on Sunday night killing all on board has emerged showing it nosediving almost vertically into the tarmac before bursting into flames.
Investigators at Kazan airport are looking for clues as to the cause of the tragedy in which 50 people died.
A technical malfunction, pilot error or poor-quality fuel are all being considered.
Twenty-four hours later and questions are being asked about Russia’s poor air safety record among smaller operators.
“There is a sense of deeply felt mourning in our country, for our republic. People have been killed, and it was not their fault. I think it’s unfair, because our airlines are not as good and not as comfortable as they should be. And above all, not as safe. Safety should be the priority,” said a local Kazan resident.
A day of mourning has been observed for the victims – among them were two children, a British teacher and the provincial leader’s son .
