Coalition talks underway in Lithuania
http://www.euronews.com/ Coalition talks are already underway between the group of opposition parties that between them polled the most votes in Lithuania’s weekend election.
The result is being interpreted as a backlash against austerity.
Outgoing Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius was praised abroad for cutting the deficit but lost domestic support as unemployment rose and wages fell.
With unemployment at 13 percent, the Baltic nation is one of the EU’s poorest countries.
The new government could determine the country’s path towards membership of the eurozone.
