Meanwhile Burberry came up a myriad variations on one its most traditional garments – the trenchcoat.

Welsh-born designer Julien MacDonald fused old and and unveiled a taste for the Orient, all inspired he says by the luxury boats in Monte Carlo, Cannes and St Tropez.

Such luxury is reflected in the prices. MacDonald’s designs sell for hundreds of dollars. He says he now has his eyes fixed on China.
