Cult director Terry Gilliam’s latest film ‘The Zero Theorem’ was one of the science fiction films premiering at the Venice Film Festival.
The former Monty Python member, American-born Briton Gilliam came to the festival with cast members French actress Melanie Thierry and English actor David Thewlis.
In the film Christoph Waltz plays an eccentric and reclusive computer genius who lives in an Orwellian corporate world.
It explores the idea of the virtual world taking over from reality, a scenario which is not far off according to Gilliam.
The director said: “For the world to become like that is a great failure in a sense I would say of my generation. We thought we’d really changed it. We did a lot of things but then you turn your head for a moment and this other thing is taking over. So children, it’s their problem now. I’m going to die soon, so my kids’ll have to sort it out.”
The Japanese manga cartoonist and film director behind ‘Harlock: Space Pirate’ took to the red carpet for the world premiere of their animation film.
