Merkel defends budgetary record over euro crisis
Angela Merkel has applauded a Constitutional Court ruling that backs Germany’s contributions to the euro zone bailout fund.
Speaking during a debate on the budget, the German Chancellor said the decision vindicated measures taken by her government, although her ability to take immediate action has been limited.
“The Constitutional Court has said: Self-reliance and solidarity, plus solidarity in a transparent way, with the full participation of parliament – that is exactly the road we have taken,” she told the Bundestag.
