Three-dimensional floral embroideries, crafted from raffia and organza leaves, echo the carved wooden furnishings of the Besso salon. These organic details are balanced by the architectural precision of microscale metal corsetry, suggesting protective yet elegant armor. Grimaldi utilizes duchesse satin and crepe cady to establish control, while chiffon and tulle introduce a sense of suspension. Models going through last minute fittings have their hair in tightly wound dreadlocks atop their head and down their back. “We emphasize the volume,” says Luigi Murenu, hairstylist for the show. “We bring to Max Mara a new sporty strong feature.” Makeup is fresh but unique. “For the makeup we decided to have a very healthy woman,” says makeup artist Tom Pecheaux. “But we’re using a foundation for darker skin.” Laura Lusuardi describes the Max Mara collection. “The Max Mara Spring/Summer collection is a beautiful mix of fine tailoring, minimalism and futurism.” Garments are clean and linear, she says. Colors range from desert sand and beige to bursts of color with turquoise.
