BTS of First Misfits: A Film by Olivier Ronot for Julien Fournie, Paris Couture | FashionTV | FTV
The electric atmosphere of the Julien Fournie Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2026 presentation, titled First Misfits, found its cinematic counterpart in Olivier Ronot’s documentary film of the same name. In First Misfits, Olivier Ronot explores the backstage sanctuary where Julien Fournie’s diverse cast of characters transition from street-style icons to Haute Couture legends. The film documents the intentional “impertinence” of the collection, focusing on the tactile contrast between traditional luxury and technical innovation. The collection marks a significant departure from conventional couture by integrating high-performance technical fabrics with traditional hand-stitched embroidery. Fournie utilizes a vibrant color palette, ranging from urban grays and asphalt blacks to sudden bursts of neon that mimic the flickering lights of the Paris metro. Oversized silhouettes and structured tailoring challenge traditional gender norms, allowing each “misfit” to project a sense of individualistic power. Detailed craftsmanship is evident in the inclusion of repurposed industrial materials, which are transformed into sophisticated accessories and hardware. The designer also pays tribute to the “gentleman thug,” blending tailored waistcoats with street-inspired bombers for a look that is both aggressive and elegant. Each garment serves as a narrative tool, telling the story of an outsider who has finally found a seat at the high-fashion table.
