Accumoli, inside the town near the quake’s epicentre
Accumoli was near the epicentre, when the earthquake struck, taking the lives of 11 people in the hilltop village. Its celebrated historical buildings bear witness to the strength of the tremors.
It will take months and huge amounts of investment to restore the popular tourist destination to its former glory. Geological surveys reveal the village sunk by 20cm.
