Witness the reimagining of Indian luxury where the soul of the textile speaks louder than the weight of its ornament. For its historic international debut at London Fashion Week, Raw Mango presented “It’s Not About The Flower,” a collection that serves as a radical interrogation of how South Asian craft is perceived on the global stage. Founded by Sanjay Garg in 2008, the brand has long been a catalyst for cultural conversation, but this fall/winter 2026-27 showcase, presented by De Beers Group, marked a definitive shift from the expected. By centering the collection around the humble, ubiquitous garland, Garg blurred the lines between the decorator and the decorated, reimagining a symbol of South Asian togetherness as a structural exploration of the body. The collection is a direct challenge to the Western obsession with “man-hours” and excessive embroidery as the sole metrics of Indian design value. Garg’s philosophy prioritizes the intelligence of the weave over the labor of the needle, arguing that India’s sartorial identity is far more than a production hub for embellishment. In “It’s Not About The Flower,” the garments breathe; they feature light, purposeful touches that let the textile’s underlying beauty shine. Silhouettes interpret the way a garland rests on a person, with flowers constructed from non-traditional silk-like fabrics, hand-rolled and delicately placed upon a diverse material landscape of rib-knit cottons, quilted rayon, wool felt, and the brand’s signature brocades. This new aesthetic vocabulary is the result of years of research and deep-loom interventions across Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Varanasi. As influential voices from Suzy Menkes to Anoushka Shankar looked on in London, Raw Mango successfully dismantled the stereotype of “over-the-top” dressing, proving that the true future of luxury lies in the quiet power of a well-considered design.
