Investors hope for a rally after “Black Monday” share sell off

All eyes were on Asian markets as they opened following Monday’s catastrophic dive by Chinese shares of nearly nine percent – the biggest one day fall since 2007.

Shanghai’s stock exchange was one of the first to start trading and almost immediately sank more than six percent, but other markets outside China seemed more calm.

Monday’s global follows weeks of jitters over the extent of China’s economic slow down.

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cabinet has formally adopted plans that will make Germany the first big, global, economic power to turn its back on nuclear energy.

The government’s green light follows last month’s decision by Berlin to phase out the nuclear sector by 2022 in the wake of Japan’s Fukushima disaster.

Not surprisingly, Germany’s Greens are delighted.
