German and US scientists win 2026 Nobel Prize in medicine for method to ‘reveal the brain’s mysteries’
Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Medicine for their research into light-gated ion channels and optogenetics — a method that “provides opportunities for mapping the brain in a way that we could once only dream of.”
