I think it has a lot to do with culture. I'm from the United States and our conservative states generally have higher birth rates than our liberal states, even though the liberal states have much more generous support plans for parents (government healthcare, childcare, welfare, etc). Conservative people tend to prioritize family and having children more.

Thanks to WW2 that created 1 billion population after the war was a bad karma and curse to human species. And this boomers can only afford to produce 2 kids in the next generations which increase more undesirable population growth.
All this nonsense of economic growth depends on human population doesn't make sense anymore.
Learn to start live within your means of a smaller population in your country.

Reasons: Liberalism, taxes, feminist movement, unfair bias against men during divorce. Removing God from public and private life. Severe lack of high quality women. Men do not want a high body county woman.
@jaykay5142
February 18, 2024 at 12:24 pm
Simple solution is to just throw enough money at people to have kids, that will reverse the trend. The only question is how much that will be. But we can figure out how much is NOT enough. Sweden has supposedly a very generous child benefit program but supposedly it doesn't help that much, so maybe try doubling or tripling that and see what happens. If some countries cannot afford this, they should just get better jobs and cut down on how much they spend on coffee and avocado toast, then they might be able to one day have nice things like a replacement birth rate.
@fortitudo2110
February 18, 2024 at 12:24 pm
Food, bills, rents, schools fee, fuel all sky high. We are talking about the essential stuff of living, who sane in the brain would have kids in this kind of world? Travel is expensive as hell too. I live in a flatshare in UK and even that is nearly impossible to find something affordable. Disgusting situation
@konraddobson
February 18, 2024 at 12:24 pm
TLDR; We can't afford kids and our governments solution is to bring in millions of third world immigrants to have children for us, causing far more problems than the one it's meant to solve. (which it isn't even solving) Now we can barely afford housing. It wouldn't surprise me if more countries leave the EU soon, as it's doing more damage than good.
@mygame4451
February 18, 2024 at 12:24 pm
i heard that having even one child is expensive to they think it is better to be childless. Also divorce rate is high, housing rent is high, taxes are high and meanwhile government has decided to increase pension age, so one hat to work longer. Good days are gone already and it will only get worse. Also politicians are never making decisions which would benefits its own people. So in all everything is fkd up.

German politicians just abolished the "child money" everyone gets if the couple makes 300.000 per year. If you life in Berlin/ Frankfurt. You aren't even considered rich, because you spend so much on rent. 😐 So only the poor are encouraged make babies. It goes to hell with our society😐

It's disingenuous to call it a low fertility rate. Fertility is fit and well but when nations are aborting pregnancies in the 6 and 7 figure ranges each year it's a bit riduclous to relate a baby shortage to fertility. It's a societal toxicity towards family which is the issue. People aren't failing to have children, they're choosing not to.
@kwadwog8168
February 18, 2024 at 12:24 pm
Maybe they can make some policies that give tangible benefits for families, and children. Not the token and disrespected free delivery, some clothing, some milk and so on. If chipdren are that important, put a value on it and make it clearer and more obvious.

I remember some rat experiments. Once the society or group learns to value grooming, enjoyment snd eating… that's mostly it. It turns into a feedback loop.
@gtromble
February 18, 2024 at 12:24 pm
On the one hand, I hear that low fertility rates will lead to population declines (oh, the horror), while on the other hand I hear about the same countries desperately trying to keep people from immigrating. If population is what you need, it seems there's plenty of supply. So what's really going on here?
