For a long time, Portugal seemed immune to the wave of right-wing populism sweeping Europe. Following PM Costa’s resignation, an election now looms with a far right party slowly rising among the ranks. But, how did we get here and why is this party suddenly on the rise?

Technically Andrรฉ ventura isn't that right wing on economics, as he proposed the same economic policies on raising taxes on the "banca" as we called it here and agreed with many policies of the Socialist Party, he was recently exposed for being a socialist by the other new anti system party, the IL(Iniciativa Liberal)

Chega wants to reduce the state to its minimal function, yet were, together with the socialist government, the only right-wing party to be in favor of having the state privatize and rescue companies like TAP. They are as liberal as the stone is the main ingredient in the stone soup (hint: not much at all). They don't have a coherent economic policy, and they're nothing more than a popularity-wind-sock.

It's a repeating pattern seen across many European countries. Aging population due to favourable conditions in their era. Majority are center-right or further right and majority population. Younger, more left-wing voters are as a percentage of population are out-voted. The right-wing are corrupt as fuck, the left-wing still are but less so. It's a temporary rise in the dying right-wing population before they die.
