One of Putin’s biggest complaints currently is that NATO betrayed its commitment regarding eastward expansion, moving ever closer to the Russian border. So in this video, we evaluate Putin’s claims and if NATO really has broken its commitments.

NATO is a red herring. Putin is concerned about being surrounded with democratic countries. This will only higlight his autocracy. All verbal deals should be off in anycase. NATO should mobilize and expand as far as possible now. Let the free world join that Alliance.

Technically none of this debate rlly matters, because NATO is a defense alliance, and Russia has nothing to worry about as long as they don’t invade a member country. So there outrage is clearly only coming from there new found inability to significant influence over most countries in Europe.

Ridiculous..back in 2000 when Putin was getting used to the office..there was even talk of Russia joining NATO..from Russia. NATO is a defensive organization and in the prevention of Conquest business..not the promotion of Conquest business..like Putin. Let's remember..Ukraine gave up its nukes in return for a deal that Russia would protect them. All out War and Genocide is not protection. Putins word is worth the same as Satan's word.

Irrespective of how many eastern european countries joined NATO. There should be no new US or NATO military bases on Eastern Europe. There are at least 9 new US military bases built in Easten Europe since 1999. This move is a de facto provocation against countries which aren't NATO members or NATO aspirant members.

    LoL
    Yeltsin didn't mind. Ahahahah
Even Yeltsin and Gorbachev publicly stated they were fooled. And they protested this in their talks with 'mericans.
TLDR as a western propaganda BS producer is doing a great job, though. Keep going! More s**t is needed for the gullible western audience that are eager to buy it.

Russian political science major here. Its more interesting than that:
    – Gorbachev wrote in his memoirs in late 90s (before it ever became an issue) that no such formal claim was made – the only Soviet politician interested in it was Shevarnadze, but had ZERO support for it in the politburo, so it was not even put on paper. The USSR was largely economically desperate by then and had no leverage for such claims in the slightest.
    – Back then, East Germany was joining West Germany, so NATO expansion was part of the very deal. Additionally, the rest of Eastern Europe was still part of the Warsaw Pact: why would USSR even discuss such assurance regarding satelite countries they still had under full control?
    – Even if such deal was part of some formalized agreement, what value would it have today? Most of the countries in question dont legally exist anymore (West Germany, USSR, Czechoslovakia). The Soviet satellites didnt have any autority or word in it as there was clear democratic deficit. Why should the people feel obliged by some paper signed on their behalf by the Soviets half a century ago? We have another agreement that is far more relevant: the Budapest memorandum. Somehow the Russians never mention it.
    – Which brings us to the main counterpoint: this claim doesnt respect the agency of the nations in question to even decide for themselves
    – Somehow all this was not an issue throughout the 90s and 2000s when the Russian government didnt object at all and Putin actively flirted with Bush Jr. and joined the War on terror, NATO partnership, and so on.

All this talk about treaties and agreements are pointless. Russia is feeling threatened and agreements don't mean shit when they don't trust us and we don't trust them.

We are also threatening China in the same way.

Since there is no final authority to appeal to, we must tread carefully or face nuclear annihilation.

The world is becoming more and more dangerous, and we should not be making it worse

I think personally that this just shows no matter who's objectively in the right or wrong geo-politically and historically ( as only time will tell) whether someone has done something right or wrong is only judged by the people powerful and influential enough to counter it. The fact that Putin is against NATO expansion whether justifiable or not has brought this debate to us in the public, however if Putin was focused solely on Russia's internal issues and not on their projection as a world power this debate over NATO expansion cold be extremely different or non-existent

Edit: I was a little bit tipsy when writing this so it might not make 100% sense lol

  17. @johnhamilton5435

    February 15, 2024 at 10:43 am

Bottom line, Ukraine wouldn't be getting their asses handed to them if they wouldn't be killing Russians in eastern Ukraine, development of bio weapons for the us, nato expansion east starting this proxy war, and us hegemony in countries that dont want it. Like the us going down to Africa trying to get them to accept LGBTQ agendas or else. 🗑️

  18. @pepsee0

    February 15, 2024 at 10:43 am

This is all rubbish. NATO is a defense organization that is not aggressive. Russia is an aggressive nation around the world. Russia had nothing to worry about, just a feeble excuse from Putin! to be exact…BS! Putin is searching for a reason for destroying Ukraine, period! Do not waste your time TLDR, please.
