Humanity’s rejection of Nuclear power was a massive mistake, and the environment has payed dearly for it as we continue to rely on fossil fuels for our electricity

Why does anyone put a chemical factory fire accident picture on screen when naming Fukushima is something I'll never grasp. Bit of a dick move there, if I must say…

A disaster from pure hubris the other from a tsunami, neither of which Germany is known for = not using the most logical power supply.
I take the hubris part back.

How could Germany be so dumb? It's like banning aeroplanes because of a plane crash. Overall, nuclear energy is the cleanest form of energy and causes the least amount of deaths as compared to oil, gas or coal energy. It's nuclear waste footprint is also the smallest. Much smaller than solar panels.

I have an MUN in few days regarding nuclear energy and its outlook by different countries for sustainable causes and I am the delegate of Germany… Coal plants for sustainability being a fossil fuel and contribution to greenhouse gases over nuclear just leaves me to think how I will answer the POI's from other countries…

This is why we Germans always end up losing. Our nation has so much raw potential that it went up against basically the whole world twice and is still standing today as one of the greatest powers. But we're so stuck in our ways and proud of ourselves that we're completely inflexible and end up acting like complete morons. If the Kaiser hadn't taken over power from Bismarck, Germany would be the dominant European power. If a moderate party took power in 1932 instead of the N@zis, Germany would be the dominant power. And today, Germany could be an industrial titan and leading the world in nuclear energy, but we made a decision to back off nuclear power so supposedly "cleaner" renewable energy could slowly be phased in. And then the war happens, and what do we do? We don't bring nuclear power plants back online, we reopen coal plants that have been closed for decades. God, if only Germany had competent leadership.

It's a result of the USA bombing the pipeline not the war in the Ukraine.
I know that you're argument will be "yes but if Russia hadn't invaded the US would not have blown the pipeline" but they would because Biden told us that he was going to.

Should put their money into deep geothermal energy. When the wind don't blow and the sun don't shine, let the untapped hotplate we live on take the strain. Not nuclear.

its clear to me that climate change activist are not interested in climate change AT ALL and offer no REAL WORLD solutions , just narcissistic politcal tribalism on socail media to make their white upper middle class privileged "university educated" arse's feel blessed at night …..Imagine a world where, instead of Germany spending 0.6 trillion euro's on "renewable energy" and NOT closing down 17 of her 20 nuclear power plants ,BUT INSTEAD, she (for about the same cost ) built 50 more nuclear power plants from 2002 … The country would be energy independent , almost net zero emmisions and not reliant on Russian fossile feul 😅👍

  13. @mukkaar

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Idk, Nuclear is very valid option for reduced carbon and waste emissions. Even if you are not pro nuclear, if you care about environment you would definitely not be decommissioning those plants. Worst thing about nuclear is that it has been sidelined and underfunded for more than half a century. It's still technology that is quite unexplored and immature. At this point, I don't see nuclear making that significant impact when considering environment since we have so many other options we can deploy faster. But if there was no anti nuclear hysteria at this point we would probably be in MUCH better place when it comes to co2 emissions we have. There's also very obvious issue at this point of being dependent on large quantities of fossil fuels, most that come from not friendly neighbor.
I have to say France is pretty much only European country that was forward looking in this case since with nuclear they got energy independence early.

Also, 12% is insanely high number if you consider total energy production. And what's even more insane that Germany is insisting on shutting down those plants -.- I just really have to consider sanity of people involved in this considering the circumstances.

One thing this video doesn't seem to speak about is were will Germany get the uranium to power those plants the usa gets about 50% of its uranium from Russia so likely Germany would be stuck in the same position unless they make their own.

  17. @johnlander1610

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

German nuclear power was sabotaged by Putin, and his lackies in the German government ensuring there political compliance

  18. @succubiuseisspin3707

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Sorry, but there are some gaps in the research. It would not be that easy to keep the plants running longer that a few month. General maintenance is long overdue because they were supposed to be decommissioned. That would take at least a year. The safety analysis you mentioned was is highly doubted because the Bavarian prime minister has commissioned for more or less political reasons. And, as far as I know, most of the fuel rods come from Russian companies.

  19. @sara_roka

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

They are going as far as wanting to shut down research plants too. Like the one on TUM University, which currently makes isotopes for cancer treatment. Nice going

  20. @ateisme3752

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Largely thanks to Germany, Denmark, and Portugal that fight nuclear. Stupidity that Europeans pay for now.

  21. @thesilentgeneration

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

It's their own fault. Never ever trust the Russians. Never ever trust the Chinese. Now they are in a mess and are making stupid decisions on coal plants. It's a no-brainer, re-open nuclear power plants. The greens would rather turn green and freeze than slowly bring back nuclear.

  24. @charlottewolery558

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Why are the Germans such putzes? 73 percent of people being against nuclear power? Instead being dependent on Russia to not freeze? Germans never learn.

  25. @360H3ADSHOT

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Nuclear is literally the best bridge energy source. Also based afd as always

  26. @jluke168

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

This might amuse some, but the coal industry invested heavily in the 70s and 80s into the smear campaign against nuclear, as they feared coal being replaced by uranium.

  27. @jluke168

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Nuclear power is the safest energy in the world. I did not realise the German people were so brainwashed that only 17% of them would support the worlds safest form of low carbon energy.

  28. @jluke168

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Europe sanctioned it's energy supplier and then blames the energy supplier for cutting supplies. It's some backward politcian logic I'm sure.

  29. @frankkluz9787

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

It's idiotic and complete lunacy to turn your back on nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuels for clean energy ! – What the hell happened to the "German scientists" so admired at the end of WW2 ? Did they all end up in the USA or the USSR ? – This should be a "no brainer" ! — Bankrupt Putin ASAP and enjoy a somewhat warmer winter while supporting Ukraine as much as possible until they win.

  30. @photonicsauce7729

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

But even for nuclear power, dont you need Russian Uranium?

  31. @nislaav6712

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Europe's biggest mistake was that we built up such dependency from one source of energy which was Russia, now regular people pay the price of greedy politicians.

  32. @varileztradragonsong4603

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

Nuclear energy is nice anda ll, and it might also be the cleanest we have currently… but i most certainly do not want to live in the area, when something does go wrong. We couldnt go foraging for a while in parts of the land after tchernobyl… thats over a thousand kilometers away. And what the wider world, apparently mostly americans, doesn't realize is, that we are squeezing a quarter of the US population on about 4% of the land. If one of those things has a catastrophic failure here, the number of affected will be in the millions.

  33. @danny__921

    February 15, 2024 at 9:34 am

I am 100% confident that Merkel was a russian agent that knew exactly what meant to close off all the nuclear power plants.

Great job Russia! Merkel was your best agent ever!
