Following a few years of continuous protests and unrest, France appears to be calling for change, with some advocating for a Sixth Republic. In this video, we examine the French political system, how the Fifth Republic came about, why some people want to end it, and whether or not it will actually happen.

Restore the monarchy under a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy with a Bourbon (installed from Spain) or an Orleans dynast. These republics are tired.

They can start by making the president a figurehead, or get rid of it altogether.
If the previous 5 republics didn't work, it kind of hints at the fact that possible future ones won't either…

  19. @FaceAuxEtoiles

    February 16, 2024 at 9:38 am

As a french I personally think that we do not need a sixth republic. The problem comes from the fact that all the politiciens of every sides of our political classes are disconnected from us. They are all son's and daughter's of rich people drived by different ideologies. For them, this is nothing else than a game of influence and power. The most evident proof of it was the death of Coluche when he scared them.

    February 16, 2024 at 9:38 am

As a french, i hope so, and i'm not the only one. On the channel LeCrayon, they did a poll on the subject, and 66% of participants were in favor of a sixth republic. It's not representative, but it gives an idea. Besides, the remaining 44% weren't necessarily in favor of the current 5th republic either.

  25. @camelotduroy1168

    February 16, 2024 at 9:38 am

Every attempt on having a republic is doomed to fail. France will never be substainable as a political entity as long as we don't come back to the foundation of France, the Kingdom. I hope the fall of the republic will push people to have some critical thinking on the regime they were socially engineered to endorse and perhaps to regain ties with their ancestors' glory

The problem is that in order to reduce the powers of the President, you have to be elected President. And in order to be elected President, you have to be the kind of candidate who's able to embody this all-powerful monarchic daddy figure. Not to mention, even if you're able to embody French "presidentialness" all the while you're pledging to abolish it, you might have a change of hearts once you get that much power.

Well when you have a president who shits on everything France has stood for in the twilight of their political career and almost single handedly hand the country over to a known Russian puppet, yeah it's time for a new government. Macron acts like an angsty teen with his relation to the US and a even worse Neville Chamberlain with dictators. There's not a single redeeming quality to his Presidency. He pulled a Reagan on France's economy by deregulation, cutting wealth taxes, creating a permanent reduction to how much companies paid into social security, lowered job security and job quality. The list goes on and on. The effects of Macron's decisions are the same thing us Americans are feeling right now. You want to see how bad it's going to be in about 25-30 years if this isn't reversed? Look at the US.
