For the past couple of months, France and Germany have been in a strained relationship. From disagreements on energy and debt to conflicting visions of strategic autonomy, tensions seem to have escalated. With the EU facing multiple crises and domestic politics adding to the mix, we explore whether this is just another bump in the road or an actual cause for concern.

That MidCat- Macron still belives like Russians that war is about to end
He goes a bit further and thinks that Russia will soon be part of the EU. So, then Europe could win China and USA. I like how romantic he gets ❤ and I really believe it is not he is considering France to be some superpower but United Europe ❤
And ofc that USA lackey thing after WW2 that Germans do, proves that German is not the main power in EU, but USA. German is just the biggest economic power. On the other hand, the problem with France is the practial one- always, but always looks only at its own interests, not Europan as whole. Every single time on every single thing. So it is the most hated neighbour of every surrounding country actually.
Actually, Germans can get gas building some terminals, and France is right in terms of nuclear energy and German and Spanish greens and all this greens are just talking nonsense, they should listen scientist, in Germany they actually burned coal, it is insane. But debt sure Germans win.
Strategic autonomy is funny name as France should do this in France, the extremely centralistic country.
P.S. Macron won. He ofc os now hated but pension reform must go on. For France sake.

yea, this dependency on the US most certainly needs to be dissolved, don't always like these frogs, but in that aspect they are 100 right… what happens if trump gets reelected…. US dependency is just dumb and opportunistic from the Germán riches..

  17. @PeterXiao1

    February 16, 2024 at 10:42 pm

France has a semblance of autonomy and seeks to preserve it. Germany is a vassal and find comfort in it. Differences are hard to bridge

  18. @Stone7C1

    February 16, 2024 at 10:42 pm

as a german, strategic autonomy is a good idea. we should focus on building up a domestic european military based on cooperation between european member states, instead of making us dependent on the u.s. for protection (on the eastern flank). the u.s. is definitely europes most important ally, but that doesnt mean european states shouldnt cooperate on being able to defend themselves and each other. id rather the EU states build up their military to be an equal partner in that relationship.

  19. @random-J

    February 16, 2024 at 10:42 pm

We can establish one thing Germans have always been like sheep throughout history till today, in what world does it make sense to close down the only form of energy that's clean and cheap for a "green" agenda. And if france want to establish themselves as a great European power again instead of trying to drag the gun shy germans Into their plan how about they do it alone by getting out of the EU.

  29. @vasilisantonopoulos9326

    February 16, 2024 at 10:42 pm

Typical example of an argument where they are both wrong. On the one hand you got the Germans making all the wrong decisions for over 30 years ( one could argue for over 130 years) believing that in a cruel world with war inside Europe power will stem from trade and economic relationships and on the other you got the French having grandiose plans of strategic autonomy when most European countries could not last hours in a conflict without American help. Another proof of why the European country with true stategic thinking run away from this circus…

EU needs to decouple from USA, in commercial, trade ways with the world as also in geo-political decision makings. Both France and Germany are right in their own ways, but then USA will always interfere to make sure that EU remains the puppet.

  35. @olivierfaur1631

Military integration within the EU is a must. The more connected we are the more we will feel and act as one and the harder it would be for us to get pushed around by other superpowers. Plus if EU has the same army future wars within EU states are extremely improbable
