Is Germany about to Send Tanks to Ukraine?

Published

on

CORRECTION:
Since we wrote and animated this video earlier this week, there have been reports that (as we predicted in the video) Germany will indeed agree to re-export licenses for Leopard-2 tanks. According to a report from Politico on Tuesday evening, two sources close to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have told Politico that, as well as agreeing to re-export licenses from countries like Poland and the Baltics, the US and Germany will also send M1 Abrams and Leopard-2 tanks to Ukraine themselves. The total number is expected to be somewhere around 100 – far fewer than the 300 the Ukrainians requested, but definitely a non-trivial number. According to the Politico report, this will all be officially announced sometime later today.
This video mostly covers the contours of the argument over the last couple of weeks, so we hope you nonetheless find it informative and entertaining; apologies either way!

Ukraine has been asking for more Western military support, and especially for modern Leopard-2 tanks. However, the US and Germany have been reluctant until recently. But could sentiment be turning in the West? And what impact would this have on the war?

I wish nations in Nato would send Leopard 1a5, Leopard 2 A4-A6, K-1 88 tank, Israeli patton tanks, Japans type 10, and to Ukraine along with F-16's, F-15's, A-10's, Grippen fighter jets, Dassault Rafale jets, and some Eurofighter typhoons. It a essential part of the combine arms assault that Ukraine need for the new offensive that they want to do to push Russians out to the lands occupied by them. Their are many countries that have these type of weapons and if they some deal made on some countries may part with them.

Again, German tanks on the eastern front, again after the German-Russian love ended. Reportedly, Angela Merkel apologized to Putin in an e-mail for the Leopard 2 tanks. The Germans did everything to slow down the approval, but the US pushed too hard.

  22. @andreasbrostrom3613

    February 17, 2024 at 7:31 am

Regarding tanks and is not a tank debate; for everyday talk a Bradley or striker is a tank. But properly distinguish them in a professional or proper setting they are definitely not a tank. Cause they cant take a tank shell to the face, while a proper tank-tank can/may. This also applies to the US Paladin artillery not a tank; can't take a shell to the face but do look like a tank. For civilians this is a meh debate. But if you really want to do policy or debate about it it's important to have the correct designation.

Terminology debate is only important in context. For a non-programmer you say code for all programming languages. But for a programmer the distinctions of the languages used are important because they are used and work differently.

"Putin doesn't escalate in some other way"? Could you pleas stop this nonsense?
US and NATO have made it clear that the only way russia can use nuclear escalation weapons is as a scary story.

  24. @christianmartinen5147

    February 17, 2024 at 7:31 am

It’s not like the Germans have many tanks they can send, or rather working ones.
