Is the Russian Minority in the EU Being Persecuted?
NordVPN: https://nordvpn.com/tldr
Since the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war, the tensions between ethnic Russians and Baltic governments have exacerbated. We explore the historical background, changing attitudes, and controversial policies targeting Russian minorities. And while the Baltic governments argue for security reasons, these measures have drawn criticism from the UN for potential human rights violations.

3:25 They also dont need a VISA to travel to Russia and arent called up to serve the mandatory conscription. And they still get all the benefits of being a citizen of an EU member nation. In Estonia they even get to vote in local elections – for now at least.
5:50 idk about that. A nation of 1million cant really compete with the media quality of a nation of 100+ million in their own language. We did have the Bronze Night riot in 2007 over the relocation (Russian media claimed destruction at the time) of a Soviet monument.

Russian ''minority'' is not a natural minority according to the meaning of a term , most part of the russians were forcibly brought by kremlin rulers to Latvia in 19050's-60's-70's and 80's with aim to dilute the number of native nationals . In the whole world they are called migrants.

The only reason why one can "believe" putin's "polls" is to justify hating on all russian nationals (racism). Or believing putin can also be peak stupidity, but in this case they should also believe in putin's "referendums" in occupied territories of Ukraine, which also show that at least 105% of people there support putin and just LOVE the occupation. If one believes one and doesn't believe the other, they're russophobic hypocrites. There's logically no other explaination.

This video is a bit misleading in that – rather than "Banning" Russian, as a relic from ussr, so far Estonia and Latvia have had state funded russian primary and highschools, where the teachers are russians, teaching russian kids in russian in all subjects. Now they're changing this, so the classes will be held in local language. I know it's a bit difficult to explain, as there aren't very many cases like this elsewhere in the world, where there are government funded schools to provide public education in foreign languages, except for maybe the former colonies in africa. Nobody is banning russian in a sense of making it illegal to speak russian. Even the russian language classes remains in curriculum nor will it affect any non-government funded private schools.

I can understand how/why Baltic people feel Russians should learn their native languages. However, they don't seem to encourage whites living in South Africa, Namibia and in other non white lands to learn the non white peoples tongues. They also don't condemn the western invasion of Iraq, Libya, etc. Thus, sympathy for them from the global south is miniscule, despite how these people are begging them to condemn or isolate Russia. Lame. Maybe they need to practise what they preach before crying victim.

For years there have been both Latvian and Russian schools and primary schools financed by State. Wich does not makes sense as only official language in Latvia is Latvian. Nobody restricts to learn in Russian or in any language but that just simply makes no sense that goverment ( tax payors ) should pay for shools that learn all education in Russian. And after graduating they are incapable to include in work market as they are unable to work in Latvian language. To add to this in capital Riga for primary schools there were also divaded pre schools for Latvian and Russian speaking children. And there is a waiting list to set your child up for goverment financed childcare/ pre school. If your line is not up you go to private childcare providers (wich is also partially financially covered by State). But the lines in Russian language pre schools were 2x less than in Latvian language. Therefore in society owerall considered poor people pre schools because you can get there fast as there is no waiting to get in because both Latvian and Russian parents who are not in financal pressure mostly choose to send kids to Latvian preschools to ensure they are able to include in society and proceed later on academic carrers and professional achievments. Russians are screaming discrimination but in reality this segreggation was the real discrimination. When checking average salaries, Russians in Latvia are making less, compared to Latvians and it is partially do their lack of integration and language skills. Because they live in Latvia where you have to be multi linguial to live well and only one language is not enough. As a total base in Latvia today you need to know at least Latvian, English and Russian but many people know at least one more language.

These apartheid regimes are EU members. People living in the country for 3-4 generations don’t have citizenship due to ethnic discrimination. Even if their parents or grand parents were born there, they cannot vote or even have a passport if their great grand parents settled in 1941.
Even Israel gives full citizenship to Arabs living in Israel (not invaded territories). Even most dictatorial regimes in middle east don’t have such policies. Hafiz Assad did not give Kurds passports for a period, but Beshar changed it after his father died.
@isooo8175
February 20, 2024 at 10:55 pm
How are These laws understandable in EU member states? This is apartheid. EU member states are not considering large minorities as citizens. They are not allowed to vote or even carry a passport.
Taxation without representation was the core of American rebellion and USA views it as a legitimate cause for rebellion and war.
