CORRECTION: As many commenters have pointed out, the narrator says 'FdL' throughout the video, when it should be 'FdI'. This is clearly a mistake, and we can only apologise for it – as an explanation (not an excuse), it's because in arial font a capital 'I' looks identical to a lowercase 'l'. Nonetheless, it's entirely our bad, so apologies and we hope you still enjoyed the video!

Furthermore, there's been some pushback against the idea that the Fratelli d'Italia are far-right, as we say in the thumbnail. This is fair enough – as we mention in the second half of the video, the FdI's actual policies aren't anywhere near as extreme as some of their rhetoric. Nonetheless, they're clearly on the right of European politics, and some of their politics could be fairly described as far-right', so, while there's room for debate, we don't think the label is unequivocally unfair.

All in all, apologies for the errors – we'll endeavour to do better in the future! As a final thing, we'll be discussing all this – our errors and the question of whether or not the FdI are far right – in more detail in our fortnightly podcast the Editorial over on https://www.youtube.com/c/TLDRPodcasts, so if you want to see us apologise even more go subscribe to that

Seems reasonable to me. Immigration is a huge problem and needs to be dealt with. Ideally the Italian Navy will just be intercepting boats… not sinking them, lol. Birth rate is another huge problem and more European countries should be taking measures to increase it. LGBT movement is not bad in and of itself, but there is a radical faction within it, especially for trans issues, which makes people uneasy when it comes to transitioning children and stuff. She is pro-Ukraine and if not thrilled with the EU, at least not anti-EU. And her fiscal conservatism is probably needed in a country like Italy where budget deficits have done so much damage.

Overall I think she might be good for Italy, at least with the current problems Italy has. I think Europe needs more politicians taking a stand on some of these issues. It is easy to dismiss the far-right on principle, but in the right context they can offer needed solutions. She's not pushing for racism or violence so I don't see her as dangerous.

I always support right and never the wrong. The wrong always feel the right is "far right" because they expect at least a bit of wrong even when it is right. In other words Giorgia Meloni is an ideal good hearted, clean, pro people leader who will defend Italy from mass murdered like "savage Islam" and "communist devils in human form". Far too right for the evil rogues". What a fortunate lot the Italians are!!!

dear tldr , all across the southern europe, there had been a great turn to the left during the last 5 years. This was mostly due to Germanys and more specifically Soible and Mercel policies. The same ppl responsible for todays germanys crisis. this created a blob of neo libertarians and hard leftists to rise up. The best example was Greeces prome minister Tsipras (who is also indirectly responsible for the refferandum crisis of europe). Those said leftists failed (Tsipras for example made a 180 turn in his pre election promises and his post election decisions) and this created a greater gap and hatred towards the established political parties or at the very best an indifference. So all those disgrunted ppl turned towards the oher extreme which was the far right. Greec again was the culprit as Chrisi Avgi a greek neonazi party gained more and more popularity . Luckily and after great pression from EU this party was outlawed. Unluckily this only happened in Greece, however the trend was already spreaadin individually all across europe ex. Brexit , the Netherlands , etc , but those countries did not ban neonazism in the name of free speech. My point is that extreme periods are followed by extreme measures , imposed by extreme parties. The rabbit hole goes way deeper than this but on the surgace thats whats happening and it will only get worse if we assume that history is repeating itself.

Another small correction: at 3:05 the logos of Forza Italia and Lega are inverted. The Lega had a huge amount of seats in the previous legislation and that's why they formed the first Conte government with 5 stars movement.

Also, it would have been interesting to show how the different parties of the right coalition are placed in the European Parliament

I am Italian, and just so that you from the rest of the world know, those that voted for her and for his "friend", the guy that was going around with putin's tshirt, are around 35%. I am FAR distance from these people, which mainly are characterized by low culture and education. This (if needed) reinforces in me even more the idea that "democracy" and possibility to vote should be given only to those that have the mental instruments to make advanced logic thinking and have the culture and knowledge to see behind the political speaches. They will make our country worse because mainly they are just interested in power and money and realistically (we've seen in the last 30 years, but average joe has no memory…) they'll not do ANYTHING good here.

  17. @jacklemonfizz6898

    February 23, 2024 at 2:03 am

yes, but Italy is not a true democracy for this reason governments do not last long, especially in the last 10 years.
there is an internal power system in the institutions that collapses the governments voted by the citizens, to replace them with technical governments or the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party has ruled in at least 6 governments in these 10 years deciding everything with 18%, losing every election …
Italy is always on the right, but always governs the left …
if you look at the Italian regions and municipalities, before the elections Italy had 15 right regions out of 5 left, today even more … so it is clear that there is something wrong.

I'm really worried about Italy's future but at the same time I don't know if the Brothers of Italy will be able to form a coalition because as it turns out the Lega isn't very happy with the Brothers of Italy since they won Lega's seats in the North of Italy meaning that Lega could pull out of the Coalition government that the Brothers of Italy are hoping to set up

  22. @satricv

    February 23, 2024 at 2:03 am

As they show how left they are…anything even remotely conservative is considered Far-Right, even if they arn't. Folks there are VERY few "Far-Right" groups out there, are when you keep labeling everything not inline with your loney-left view as being Far-Right. You just end up sounding like chicken little, or the boy who cried wolf, and eventually folks are going to just stop listening to you. Cause your wrong every time.

FDI is the pinnacle of pariah politics today. They present themselves as radical yet electable fascists for the self-identifying fringes but it’s just a show because even they recognize how not viable their more outlandish ideals are. How much of the esoteric iconography is real I don’t know. They also tend to have a horseshoe curve. Mussolini went full…Peacock and I must remind you the party’s predecessors would still see this as the culmination of their ideology and an upgrade from the old Fascist platforms. In Nietzschean terms: cosmic passions being realized. Something like that.

She, Giorgia, is the most impressive politician I have encountered in a very very very long time. There is an old argument whether times produce the person or does the person produce the times. It is of course both. However I subscribe to a leaning in the scale – meaning I lean towards the "person produces the times" side. the zeitgeist of The People can go un heard for decades…longer…until a person comes along. One of those persons, we need more, is amongst us…her name is Giorgia. I would crawl on my hands and knees to vote for her. I love her.
