Published

At the weekend a number of French regions voted in for new regional governments. That wouldn’t normally be a big topic, but with French national elections on the horizon, many are looking to these votes for an indication of things to come. So in this video we explain the system, the results and what a loss means for both Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen

Im an american so I cant say I know to much about french politics but could someone explain why The National Rally has been considered far right, is it just relative compared to other partys or is there something I'm missing, because a hard stance on immigration and being skeptical of larger international organisations seems to be pretty well within the overton window for right wing partys.

LR is not a center-right party. It is fully righ-wing and always has been. Somtimes center-right parties might ally with LR but LR in itself is the historical French right-wing party.

You forgot many things, as it was noticed by a lot of people. I just want to ad that LR isn't a center right party. It's a good old right party with a soft spot for far right ideas. A big soft spot.

okay.. i watched the entire video, and rewinded because i don't think i got an explanation of what the top vote gettter (the one with the IR symbol) was. I don't even know what IR stands for. the portion that explains tactical voting is supposed to elucidate what IR is.. I think? but that seciton doesn't explain what IR is, either. Like what party is that, what ideological leanings do they have..
