It's worth to mention that Orban has been visited by the far-right republicans in Congress, and Orban visited the US to meet with the same people. The goal was to discuss how all help to Ukraine can be stopped.

Right now the opposition are acting as if this crisis is their favour. But Orban rightly says that at least the people did step down. The Hungarian opposition has plenty of leaders who did not step down despite their various mis-steps and scandals.

The really-"ironic" thing about Orban- or maybe not so ironic, in hindsight- is that he and his like-minded compatriots "cut their teeth", politically, in the late 1980s by *attempting to fend-off Soviet-backed/Communist Party tyranny*. He was at the "head" of a movement, within Hungary, to DO JUST THAT!
and yet… at least a decade or 2 later, he becomes this fascist- or, at least, fascistic- ultraconservative POS running yet-another movement, at home, that *does its best to ENFORCE ITS OWN CRUEL, STATE-BACKED (ultraconservative) TYRANNY all the same*.
w/ no sense of "irony", on his and his comrades' part? lol

As a Hungarian, excellent coverage. Feel like it's worth noting that the protests were organized by Hungarian influencers, rather than political parties.
As far as I know, this is something unheard of until now – not just in Hungary, but on a global level.

Hungarian here: so the narratives are these. Anti migration-now therr are factories where they kicked out the hungarian workers and employed only migrant ones. Save the childre-this video explains. And everything is cool-people's wages are low, and the value of our money is worthless.
People are brainwashed and i dont think there will be a new president. But they will loose their superpower
@robertgyiran
February 23, 2024 at 9:33 pm
The problem with Hungary is it's not a democracy anymore. Orbán changes the election law every 2nd term to favour his party and weaken the opposition, meanwhile he is using the offices supposed to check on parties to punish his political enemies, parties. They changed the constitution 14 times! If Orbán feels his power is in danger, he will just change the rules again, as always. And of course, bigger chunk of the media is controlled by Fidesz.
@danielgospodinov5786

The Fidesz government has granted 1 to 2 million Hungarian passports to Hungarian descendants from neighboring countries, entitling these passport holders to live and work in the EU and receive various social benefits such as free healthcare, education, pension, and low-interest bank loans. While Hungary-born Hungarians are sick and tired of politics, these new passport holders will climb over broken glass to vote for Orbán, guaranteeing an easy victory in any upcoming elections.

As someone who went to a traditional protestant school as a child ( as a foreign family living in the Netherlands you didn't really know about these things) I am not surprised that the self proclaimed traditionalist conservatives are in fact hypocrites. That means that although these traditionalist reformed Christian conservatives were now shown to be hypocrites, so are their voters: and I'm sure these voters will come up with an excuse for their hypocrisy, as reformed Christians embracing traditional family values do. Something like its the Christian thing to give (fellow Christians) a second chance, and blaming the opposition of ruining the family lives of those good Christian people like the teacher, the president and the minister.
