Too much optimistic. The Spanish economy is a hollow shell. The country lives on tourism, sun, sand, paella and sangria. Industry? Some in decadence in the Basque Country and Catalonia, my own country. And we have a capital city artificially swollen, Madrid just consumes and exports nothing. We will see how long the mirage lasts.

Something else which hasn't been mentioned with regards to Spain: With the exception of Morocco, there's a hell of a lot less antagonism towards it from African countries, which means more willingness to cooperate.
Even now, France still insists on treating former colonies as such.
And it's not a bad thing to have a divers leadership and less of a monopoly on France and Germany's part.

Being French, I'd first like to stress out the UK never was a leader in Europe. Leadership requires power, which FR, DE, ITA, SP and UK have, and a strong political will which was totally lacking in the UK when it came to Europe. France and Germany on the other hand have been pushing for their agendas for a long time.
Now France and Germany face systemic problem (Germany lack of economic diversity, terrible energy, low digitization and aging population, France faces structural society issues like racism and democracy limits, weak economic and rising inequalities) I agree there is room for new top players and more democracy. Let's see how emerges 🙂

Is this a joke? Spain is still one of the highest in receiving EU BENEFITS just to survive. It's richest region around Madrid is nearly equal in average salaries to the poorest area of south Italy, Calabria and the unemployment rate is second only to Greece. It's in none of the major world organizations, Italy is in every one including G7 and the 3rd highest NET CONTRIBUTOR to the EU.

Note that Spain does not recognize the sanctions against Venezuela and Cuba by the U.S and its allies so I give them credit for that and even though Spain did once have them as subjects now they're opening their arms again not as conquerors, but as friends. China and Russia obviously will never understand the Latin culture but Spain does compared between Spain versus China and Russia. Which is why Spain is more friendly towards the Latin American countries than the us or its allies and China and Russia will not see these countries as equals the longer that they're there they'll see them as subjects. And I have seen Cuban and Venezuelans even traveling to Spain so it shows how much Spain does not want to isolate it's fellow Latin Nations across in the New World. Spain does have the potential of being the one who bridges the gap between Europe and South America and the Caribbean.

That's a highly optimistic view. Pedro Sanchez is wasting lots of money from the contributers (tax hell) and meanwhile lots of people in spain (youngsters in particular) are piss poor.
Many young people in Spain (or poorer people) can't even afford a car, and go with an electric motorized scooter, so embarassing and sad.
PS: I'm catalan, i know what's going on. Spain = power? Sounds like a bit of a joke honestly

I'm not sure Spain is interested in "emerging" like that. Spain has emerged long time ago in variables that, those countries obsessed with only one variable (GDP) have missed. This eternal economic and influence competition is absurd.
Spain is interested in life. It's a country to actually live a good, healthy, and happy life. A country interested in non-rushed friendly relations with other countries alike.
Some sufficient defense capabilities, and that's it. Leave the race and competition to others that seem obsessed with that.

I think there should be a video on Spain and the conquences of the result of the forthcoming general election.
This is very likely to have an impact on Catalunya if PP and VOX form a majority government.
Cries and calls for catalan independence is likely to happen again and this time as a consequence of the war in Ukrainine russia may recognise catalan independence supporter by china and eu support for issues over Tawain.
