“NovoRossiya”: Putin’s Plan to Take Back Ukraine – TLDR News

Published

on

TLDR Store: https://www.tldrnews.co.uk/store

Putin apparently has ambitions to take back control of so-called “New Russia” including a large part of Ukraine and a small chunk of Moldova. If he’s serious is an important question, and significantly impacts how the international community will react to his threats on the Ukrainian border. So in this video, we unpack the plans and discuss if Putin’s serious.

It turns out, as the situation has transpired in the year since this was published, that 'Russian-speaking' is not the same as 'Russian' (or maybe you'd call it 'ethnic Russian'), and 'ethnic Russian' does not equate with 'I want to be a Russian citizen'. There are those who grow up in the East and speak Russian as their first language who are Ukrainian all the same, with ancestral roots that are very Ukrainian, those who maybe have strong roots in Russia too, and speak Russian, but still consider themselves to be Ukrainian due to living there and wanting to be there so long, for generations even, and even those who may have more recently come from Russia and be 'Russian', but chose to live in Ukraine. Putin's idea that he can impose on any of these groups that they want to be a part of Russia is his mere fantasy that the people on the ground can't speak for themselves but have to fit his imperial ambitions. A fact he doesn't mention, and bans from his country's media, of course, is that as many people from Donetsk and Luhansk fled westwards through the fighting lines into central and western Ukraine to escape this as into Russia. We also know since how hard the Russians make it to flee westwards and how they deliberately push any evacuees into Russia. We also see how happy many Russian speakers are to be liberated from the Russian occupation in Kherson and elsewhere. To this we can add other observations: Putin's claim that Lenin just made this region arbitrarily is not supported by the fact that at the time, though the urban population may have had a lot of Russian speakers (and don't forget what I said above, about how that doesn't make them 'Russians'), the actual majority for the regions, when you included the rural population too, was more Ukrainian, and the surrounding countryside definitely Ukrainian. We also have plenty of Russian speakers evacuating to the west, plenty fighting on the Ukrainian side, and plenty who have escaped from the eastern regions saying they never wanted this 'liberation'. We should also point out that the main justification for this 'protection' has been the idea that Russian was banned, but it wasn't. Even in Lviv it isn't. Lavrov to this day claims that in Kyiv people are attacked for speaking Russian, but a huge amount of the population speak it as their first language, and do so on the street no problem. And we have video material up to this day, throughout the war, of Ukrainians freely speaking Russian in the whole of Ukraine, including among the soldiers, just as we have the video of popular TV shows, such as Savik Shusters 'Svoboda Slova' equally allowing Russian, or Ukraine's version of 'The Voice' having singers singing Russian songs in Russian and talking to the jury in Russian, etc., etc., etc. Even the TV series that made Zelensky famous is 95% in Russian, with him speaking Russian almost all of the time. Of course the statistics about civilian deaths since 2014 in DNR and LNR are severely distorted and misreprested by Russian leaders too, as is any of their 'information' about Nazis in Ukraine. The milked and exaggerated and exploited anything they could in order to fulfil mere imperial ambitions. And they have caused thousands of deaths of those in those republics that they supposedly want to protect to do so.

A democratic referendum was held in Crimea, organized by Crimea itself, where the citizens decided to declare independence and join Russia. Putin said that the issue of Crimea is closed and that the citizens of Crimea already decided without American money and American referendums.
