Brussels standoff: EU stalemate over Hungary and Poland budget veto
There’s been no breakthrough in Brussels over Europe’s long-term budget and pandemic rescue package. The EU leaders’ summit ended without a deal – after Hungary and Poland vetoed the financial plan earlier this week. They say they won’t sign off on the so-called “rule of law mechanism” that links the funding to countries upholding democratic norms. But the European Parliament is refusing to back down. Euronews political editor Darren McCaffrey sent this report from Brussels
