P.S. For those asking, this video's thumbnail was based of QA7 of the most recent European Parliament Eurobarometer poll (Autumn 2023), which measured the percentage of people in each member state who think that EU membership is, "generally speaking…a good thing".
Relevant data can be found here: https://europa.eu/eurobarometer/surveys/detail/3152 (go to Report –> EP Autumn 2023 Survey: Six months before the 2024 European Elections – Report – en)
Hope that clears thing up and you enjoy the video!

It seems to me the more layers of government you create the more conservative your mid-level politics become.
Ppl just tend to choose to balance. Possibly because top politics take over responsibilities so ppl see less need from the mid/local to have certain responsibilities.
It’s like there’s a balance scale. Right to left. Local is on the right and national is on the left. When you add another tier to the top, all layers need to slide right to balance the scale.

New EU censorship laws and poor economical growth due to crazy Fit for 55 and Largest Corruption scandal with sheyks bribing never happen. 40 000 lobbysts in Brussels are no problem also, taking over more and more of every country juristiction to become one supercountry its also not a problem. 90% of people have no idea what is happening in EU Commission and EU parliment. Regarding Czech euroscepticism:
Being dissatisfied and grumble about evething is Czech national sport
The only really pro-Czexit are those who have no idea how EU benefits us and at best make 9-10% of czech population, being SPD voters.
Anti-Euro stance was greatest during the Euro-crisis, when people learnt about how disproportionately high Greek pensions were and how extravagant was Greek money spending prior to crisis. Public consensus was do we really want to pay for their pensions? There is also a second source of this refusal. When neighbouring Slovakia accepted Euro as it's official currency, prices of literally everything went up in every single sector over night. Yes, when you ask Slovaks about their present stance on this, they say they got used to this and things have normalized themselves, but regular Czech is scared of another price hike. Although this anti-Euro stance slowly dissipated since it's peak and overall consensus is there would be no difference in everyday use, memory of those two things is still hanging in public memory.
Skepticism about west overall is also about Munich betrayal, when then Czechoslovakia was thrown to the wolfs. "About us, without us"
Anti-centralization goes back to memory of being a satelite state of Moscow, where everything was decided and dictated, also cost of dissobedience in 1968.
EU border non-control, when crowds of people, who unlikely to ever find a job or even search for it, because of generous social programs, are supported and tollerated doesn't sound too good to nation of people with an allergy on "parasites". Daily rape and crime reports done by those young male visitors in western countries doesn't help either.
Various unpopular regulations, such as Euro 7, that threatened Czech automotive industry aren't raising positive opinion either.
Despite this Czechia is not leaving EU anytime soon. Benefits outweigh the negatives, it is just Czechs are hard to satisfy and there is a need to complain about everything, that isn't perfect. Plus a little saying: "Don't destroy what works well"

EU spoiled the small economies too much. Eastern block countries including the largest one, Poland, developed with EU money and other EU opportunities. They complain. Probably, they expect only benefits and no obligations. Greece and Cyprus had hundreds of billions of debt written off, but they still complain. What I understand is they expected EU to go on pumping money so that they could go on spending the money they did not have just as before.

Here in Czech Republic, I would say that it's about very loud minority, but I would say that these anti-eu people are getting more and more agressive and loud every year, so you hear about them more and they have their parties, some of them have a significant amount of votes, so other parties have to make coalitions to check mate them. Honestly, EU is doing so much nonsenses and communication is something not that great that I can understand why it is getting worse, people don't hear about how EU works, what good it does for us, they hear just how much it cost to save Greece, how much money we sent to Ukraine, what EU banned this year and what they plan to ban. The fact that most of countries would ban it even without bying in EU is something they don't care about because of "bad EU" mindset.
I think that after our former president Václav Klaus and his eurosceptic cult dies, this will be getting better. There is also a massive problem with russian and chinese troll farms, they are sending chain mails to pensioners who believe that everything in news is propaganda. I don't want to repeat myself, but time will solve this, these people are mostly older. I am not saying to "remove" them, but it will definitely change after they won't be here anymore.
There is also not that small amount of young people who are also that brainwashed, but I would say that most of them are not that militant, they are just eurosceptic, not literally euro-enemies or something. These people are something in common – they don't travel and they have no idea what's happening in other countries, like actually, they never been there, they just watch videos with migrants on internet.
And cult of Václav Klaus is really a cult, it's not a political ideology or way or an opinion, it's a cult and Václav Klaus is their guru. Even in Babiš's party, there are still pretty normal politicians, but people who support Klaus are just extremists for me, you can't even speak with them, similarly as with people of Okamura's party, which is an immigrant from Japan who has and anti-immigrant party, very ridiculous. 😀
I am not literally a fan of every bullshit which EU creates, but I very like to see that with today government, we hear about what we do in EU, we are more important and our voice is relevant, other EU politicians are visiting us here and vice versa and speaking about important things for whole Europe.
THIS IS much better than beying some crybaby who is against everything so at the end you will be just some forgotten sh*thole and when other countries here about you, it's something negative. I have a lot against today government, but I very love the fact that we are actual important EU members for the first time in 20 years!
And there is a lot of things which would not happen without EU, just recently, German restaurators are repairing some our historical paintings on walls from time of Charles IV and they pay it!! Because they want to learn and test new methods on it, it's a multinational team of historians, scientists and restaurators and there is a lof of such things, but it's not something what makes a bread cheaper, so these anti-EU people don't care. These things would never happen without EU or it would be very very expensive and complicated.
@maspalfiker

Croatia has no reason to dislike its membership. We get much more from being in the EU than if we stayed out. It is the far right parties which have no clue on how to lead a country as an economy and only talk about "preserving national identity" read: hating all who are not white and Catholic.
@Da__goat
February 10, 2024 at 6:43 pm
I would probably argue that the really big problem member states like Greece, Italy, and others have of the EU directly relates to the crisis surrounding the Euro and how the EU handled the fallout from that. How a small economy like Greece and tank the entire market is definitely not something that would appeal to the rest of them, nor does it make a good case for the Euro as a reserve currency. If any one of 27 member countries have a domestic issue then the entire EU tanks temporarily, it is not very stable. By comparison, it would be if the US state of Pennsylvania, with the same population but a vastly larger economy, were to have bankruptcy problems, then that problem would largely be contained within the state. Other problems that especially Greece faces is that, despite being in Schengen, and having a long border with Bulgaria, it is completely forgotten about in the bottom of the EU and constantly gets threatened by neighboring Turkey but Germany continues to do business with them, and every interaction is viewed as being a slap in the face. Most notably, for Greeks and Italians, the migrant problems are heating up and causing so many problems domestically and EU leadership simply have not cared about these local problems. Cyprus remains an occupied colony of Turkey and has been for 50 years, with no EU negotiations happening to return 30% of its land back to Turkey. And the big problem, is that the most important country in the EU, France, has very big leverage in the bloc but never uses that power. The Fourth Reich was fine when the money was flowing but now that it isn’t, well, clearly it might not be the best.

I would say you made a generalization that isn't grounded in reality with "eastern countries are more eurosceptic". What you looked at was simply the proportion of people expressing some negative view on either trust or satisfaction, which turned out to be higher than some other countries in the west, but didn't look that in many cases the corresponding amount of positive views on the same thing is also higher, not to mention it almost always outstrips the negative opinions numerically. The reason is that eastern European politics tends in many countries to be more polarized and less about compromise, which tends to reduce the amount of "don't knows". People tend to be pro or against, not undecided.

Poles support eu even though eu always punishes Poland for nothing and shows hypocrisy for example when they had problem with turów. They were trying to make Poland close it while Germany started to mine a new coal deposit, second thing is that germanty has more most harmful power plants in the EU than the Poland has, even though we are tens of years in the past because of communism. So they make a vision of Poland being not ecologic while they're even less ecologic but WE have to pay for that. And they don't see for example the fact that we have also twice national parks as them which is surely more ecologic. The worst is that with the problems like that i coud go on and on and on, (for example thet they weren't right about nord stream 2 and now Poland, which was against this, has to pay to germany for this) but still there're many Poles that unfortunetelly don't see any problems in the EU and blindly accept everything they do.
