Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted many countries to consider joining NATO for their own protection. But historic conflict over Cyprus between Greece and Turkey, and their economic dependence on Russia make it very unlikely to join any time soon.

Cyprus should make Cypriotic its official language and be a different united and unique nation with all Cypriots.

5th reason is Cyprus is located completly (this is important) out of continental Europe

Greek Cyprus will never let be in NATO, Because of VETO of Türkiye and Hungary.

Most Turkish Cypriot descend from Islamised Greek Cypriots , Cypriot Latins(Levantines) and Cypriot Maronites. Only a small percentage comes from Ottoman settlers and most spoke Greek for a long time before adopting Turkish, in fact some still do speak Greek Cypriot as their only native language like in the village of Louroudjina.

The majority (~80%) has always been Greek in the past 3000 years. You misspoke when you said this was not the case when the Ottomans came over.

Declassified CIA documents show maps that Turkey wanted to partion Northern Cyprus as early as the 1940's while still a British colony. What you have to understand moderates from both sides wanted to keep out of politics, Turkish right wingers wanted to be close politically to Ankera and do their bidding for partion and right wings Greek Cypriots wanted to be politically close to Greece to secure it from further occupation and Turkish partition. These two factions from communities were EOKA and TNT. If you read the London Zurich agreement the vice president had to be a Turkish Cypriot and had veto power on all policies and a fixed number of Turkish Cypriots seats in parliament. All of which is undemocratic. If you add in that right wing Turkish Cypriots nationalist were actively working with Ankera in perusing a partion you have inter communal violence.

Cyrpus can't join NATO because 1/3 of it s occupied by Turkey and countries with territorial disputes can't join. The reason it s occupied by Turkey is because the British squatters wanted to at least have a base there and true to style they did in Cyprus exactly the same thing they did everywhere else they went or left. Divide and conquer. As long as there's a problem they can play "arbitor", they declared for themselves a base as sovereign territory and the "natives" can squabble all they like. As for NATO it doesn't need Cyrpus to join because the UK already has a base there and the UK is in NATO and that's all the island has to offer them anyway. Things always change so who knows, maybe one day France or the US or God forbid Russia or China will come to "protect" the Pakistani or Indian minorities in Britain which are of similar size to the Turkish minority in Cyprus. 🤣

The UN needs to leave Cypress so the government of Cyprus can kick out the Turkish government so they can have one United country again

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

Cause Cyprus is covered in russian money, so many oilarch live in Cyprus now to escape Sanctions without giving money to pootin

  13. @thesunisup_

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

I mean there really is not much to explain. Every country that has unresolved territorial conflicts cannot join NATO, full stop.

  14. @astronaut205

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

Turkey does not help NATO at the time (they throw out NATO from Insirlick base) they blackmailing Sweeden and Finland while threatening Greece with war, they helped Putin and all that kind of stuff. NATO should throw out Turkey and add Sweeden, Finland & Cyprus

  15. @JohnDoe-lt4kl

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

Why exactly is Turkey unhappy about Cyprus, including the "legit" Northern part, joining NATO?

  16. @Agapy8888

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

That would be a big mistake. NATO is only for losers.

  17. @someguy3766

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

Another factor might be the UK's sovereign base areas. Parts of Cyprus are actually still British territory, with a significant UK military presence. As long as British forces are on Cyprus the island is pretty safe, as any attack on the country would likely result in a response from the UK, a vastly more powerful country.

  18. @jurimiller3068

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

    which part should join nato?
    turkish or greek part?
    and why?

  19. @omer10131

    February 13, 2024 at 7:30 pm

Did you forget to mention that it was the Greeks who booted out Turkish Cypriots from parliament in 1961, and hijacked parliament completely disregarding international mechanisms?

  20. @etemkonus9115

Which one is the Southern Greek part or the Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic becoming a NATO member?

Never gonna happen…not since the illigal occupation of them in 1974…don't know why the West don't take actions against turkey …they should be sanctions as much as Russia ..

In this video, we’re going to take a look at the ruling in France and explain why, while it might be good news for Le Pen personally, it is actually probably bad news for the National Rally and thus the French right.
